- Mite update (13 March 2008)
Extensive inspection of stocks in the collection found a single vial with an evident mite infestation. Our guess is that cultures are occasionally infected at a low level but the mites don't take hold because we change vials frequently. It is also possible that mites are occasionally introduced when shipping subcultures are established or are in transit. Please let us know immediately if you think a culture from us arrived with mites. Although mite infestation appears to be rare and sporadic, we continue to recommend that stocks from all sources, including us, be quarantined.
