P-type ATPases couple ATP hydrolysis with the transport of ions across membranes. Several autosomal dominant disorders are associated with mutations in P-type ATPases including Darier disease (a disorder characterized by hard yellow blemishes on the skin and mucous membranes), Familial hemiplegic migraine, and Rapid-onset dystonia parkinsonism.
